It’s the summer of 1995, they fire a bunch of workers, including an electrician named Rand Gautier. Rand says he was owed 20 thousand dollars, a plumber was owed twenty thousand dollars, and Troyes, the contractor, was owed sixty thousand dollars. They go back to get their tools and Tommy allegedly points a gun at them and says, get the fuck off my property. So after being held at gunpoint, Rand decides he’s going to steal an enormous five hundred pound safe that they know is in Pam and Tommy’s garage. Rand told me that the plan was just to take the safe. He had no idea that there was a tape buried inside that safe.
This is the moment that changes everyone’s life forever…
The Heist

Rand spent a couple of months parking outside of Pam and Tommy’s home, casing the joint. Around the end of October Pam and Tommy were in London for an extended period. Rand told me that the way that the heist began is that he jumped over their fence with a white Tibetan yak fur over his back in case anyone was looking at the security cameras at that moment that they would think he was a dog.

Well you still had to open the garage and pull in your truck and pull a giant fucking refrigerator safe, so I don’t know why he dressed like a dog in the beginning, like in a cartoon, you know, it’s like the wolf is dressed like a sheep and he’s like cruising along. The guy sounds Like a tool.

Rand once told me a version of the story where he did this by himself. In that version of the story there’s a dolly and he pushes the safe onto a dolly. He gets the safe from the dolly to the back of his truck by using the strength of his legs alone.

It’s huge. It’s a huge safe. You’re just not throwing this on the back of the truck like a like a tire. He says he did it by himself?

I don’t really believe that. Most other people have insisted that one of the contractor was also involved. They get the safe out of the property. Rand takes the security tapes, sets everything back up the way that it was. And then they take off.

I’ve never told this story, I am a little nervous, to be honest, really, because I’ve never really shared this with anyone. I think now is the right time. I know Rand. Rand was really good friends with my dad, my dad is Milton Ingley, he was known as the king of low budget porn. You know, they called him Uncle Milty.
I would come home from work in my normal job and there would be people tied up in our living room. He’d be shooting a movie, naked people, you know, running in and out. I thought, I just want a normal life. I just want to work for the airlines. That’s all I want to do. So I had moved to Phenix and my dad called me one day and said, you need to come to L.A. I need you to help me with something. And he gave me a strange request. You said wear business attire, bring your Social Security card and your passport. I thought, what are we doing? So my dad came and picked me up at Burbank Airport, and he’s all paranoid, just not himself. He said, here’s what we’re going to do. I need you to open a safety deposit box. OK, so he gives me these tapes. I take them into the bank and get back in the car. He’s looking over his shoulder, he’s looking around, is that car following us? Is that and I said, what is your deal? He said, well, Rand brought it is safe to the studio. And it’s from Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee’s house. Rand had just planned on holding the safe for ransom because they didn’t pay him, but my dad being the character that he is, he said, let’s blow this fucker open. Lo and behold, there was tapes in their home videos. It’s the two of them on their honeymoon having sex. And I said, OK, he said, but I made copies of them. These are the originals that’s stolen property, so we need to get rid of them. He hands me a pair of pliers and said, cut up these tapes and I’m tearing them up, throwing them out. And it was flying down the five freeway. That’s where the original tape ended up.
What’s the chances of a porn producer ending up with Pam and Tommy sex tape? How crazy is that, I mean, one in a million and then he took me back to the studio and proceeded to show me the video. I was shocked.

You know, if you’ve ever seen the Pam and Tommy sex tape, it’s almost an hour long and there’s only seven or eight minutes of sex. They also hang out on the boat and they also swim and they also, you know, are just talking to each other about. How much they love each other?

My dad just said, oh, my gosh, it is absolutely pure gold. We’re going to make millions off of this. He knew he was going to probably get in trouble, but he didn’t care. I didn’t really want to be much part of this. But, you know, I love my dad. I help my dad with whatever he asks. I was his ride or die, but I didn’t really know much what was happening. He kind of kept me in the dark a little bit because he to protect me, I think. Rand really didn’t want any part of it, so he kind of just stayed out of it. That’s just not in his DNA. He he that’s just not who Rand is. So my dad, he had to come up with a plan on how to get it out.

There is a big family known as the Perinos. Lewis Butchie Perino lends, Milton Ingley between 50 and 80 thousand dollars to cover the costs of distribution to illicitly start selling the Pam and Tommy sex tape.

Ray: Sure, I guess Milton Ingley went to Butchie because it was beyond his capability. Butchie came to me and said that he had Tommy Lee and Pam’s tape and he was going to market it. I told him that I didn’t like invading their privacy and didn’t want to be involved.
Guerin: Interesting.
Ray: But he’s a friend and I loaned him 50 thousand dollars to do it. That’s my totality of the whole whole thing.
Guerin: Oh yeah. Well I appreciate your time.

You could see that even from the beginning, you know, people that are actually in the industry even knew it was wrong. You know, you have people that, you know, here’s a guy that just from the gate was like, I want nothing to do with it, you know, although he loaned fifty thousand dollars towards it. So he can’t have felt that bad about it. You know, I don’t want anything to do with that, but can I invest in it?

All of this happens before Pam and Tommy noticed the state had been stolen. They are still not even aware of the fact that the tape is missing.
In January of 1996, Pam and Tommy eventually noticed the safe is missing. Once they know the tape is gone, they flip out.
Tommy:
I was going down to get something out of the safe and I went it was hidden behind a big roll, a carpet, the carpeted wall, And I went back on the carpet and the entire safe was gone. Inside job. We we think so.

It took a long time for Pam and Tommy to figure out that the tape was for her, that that the safe was gone by this point, it was widely known in the L.A. community. People were talking.

Everyone coming through that house within that last year is a suspect. Common sense says who is in their house the most. It would be me saying, you know, one day I’m at the studio and I’m kicking back. Very similar how I’m kicking back right now on a sofa. And this guy Pelicano burst himself into my studio. And right behind him, he’s got his buddy with him. Hand in his pocket suggesting he might have a gun You know, these guys look like a wise guy and they both come in hot ‘Where the Fucks the video’ Tiberio, you hey, you, Garran, where are the videos? Where the videos and at the time, we exchange a lot of videos back then. So I assumed, well, of course I have the video. It’s right there. And they point to all the other videos that I’ve borrowed nearly half probably by my suggesting that there it is. I think he might have just kind of gone on his way. I was like, this is not the guy. I called Tommy and I was like, hey, dude, am I in trouble, like, do I need a lawyer or something? He’s like, I know. And you laugh. Just for the record, no one’s ever accused me of stealing the tape ever. Period, except for Pelidano, or what ever the fuck his name is?
By now rumours of a Pam and Tommy sex tape circulating becomes front page news all over the World.

When Pamela Anderson was pregnant with her first child, we started doing a little stakeout out at the house because we wanted to be the first ones to get the footage of them either racing to the hospital to have the baby or bringing the baby home.

We get to the point where literally guys are jumping out of the bushes like ninjas, post it up like a sniper taking pictures and you’re like casing your own house. It’s like there’s no time out, there’s no pause, it was like, OK, OK, hey, it’s after hours like like like I’m not fucking working right now.
And then the baby was born. I really feel bad for Tommy and Pam because the simple fact that they had no privacy and they can’t get away and there’s a lot of stuff going on. So where they went there was like this intentness happening. I mean, it was just a time bomb.

One night we got word that Baywatch was having its wrap party at the Viper Room, which is a nightclub that was owned by Johnny Depp.

And it was a typical night for us. The Viper Room is a normal night We go out to all the time.
There’s cameras in their face and pictures. It’s like, get away. You know, I think I know Tommy pretty well. And you look on his face and he’s he’s upset. It becomes part of you because it’s like I’ve had enough.

I call my dad. I said, oh my God, are you watching this? And he’s like, yeah, out of all the banks in the valley, they had to pick my bank. I was freaking out. I know he was freaking out. He couldn’t believe that it was happening. My dad thought, we’re going to be rich. What happens if they get into the bank? Well, thankfully, they didn’t get the tape, they didn’t get anything from the bank, and of course, they didn’t know that the tape was in there, nobody knew the tape was in there. It was a narrow escape.
By this point, my dad was ready to release the tape, but due to the laws in America, he knew he couldn’t release the tape here in the United States without having lots of problems. So he figured out a way around it. He said in Europe, they don’t have this. He called me, said, book me a ticket to Amsterdam. And that’s when my dad put his plan in motion.
Milton flees to Amsterdam
He came up with his own dotcom for people to look for it, and he started putting it on message boards on the Internet and people had to message him to buy the tape. At that time, the Internet was just barely starting. Everything was dial up. There was no streaming. So you had to see it on VHS. He had separate companies. You sent the money to appeal box in Canada and somebody from another location shipped you the tape.
Everybody was buying it. This is the foreign currency rate table. It was all over the world, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Israel, you name it. It was everywhere. I think the voice tape in America was this says that it’s one hundred and six. It really raked in a lot of money. I have no earthly idea how much I would say millions. He spent every dime of it. He loved Amsterdam. He loved Europe. He was living his best life, having the greatest time. He would send me pictures in a coffee shop, smoking a cigar and just saying this is the greatest thing ever. My dad never set out to hurt anybody. It wasn’t about that. It was about gaining his own fame and fortune. I don’t think he ever really thought about the effects it would have on Pam and Tommy and Pam in particular.

OK…Did you want me to start? I was in L.A. seeing an agent, and there was a friend of mine here who was in the entertainment industry. And I went over to his office to have lunch with him and he asked me if I had heard of the Pam and Tommy video and I really had not even heard about it. That’s how removed I was from that world. He said, well, it’s getting couriered over, so why don’t you stay and watch it, make sure he popped it in the machine. And it was just, you know, one of those jaw dropping moments. It was shocking, actually. It was almost like at first, you know, it was like nervous laughter. And then you just like, do we really just see that. There was no Internet then to see these kinds of things, we’re bombarded with this type of content now. I just looked at him and I said, you know, I think this guy in Seattle would probably be interested in this video.

My friend threw his hand up in the air at that point, said, I want nothing to do with this. OK, so I just remember saying I’m going to ask him for ten thousand dollars. And Seth, said done. I mean I almost thought it was foolish that he was even willing to pay for it. I was in the wrong place at the right time. And it just happened to hit my hands instead of somebody else’s.
So I flew up the next day and he was anxiously waiting, took the tape out of my hands, went into the office with his lawyer and his marketing guy. And the next thing I knew, it was all over the news.

And we started to do a play-by-play description of what you could actually legally get away with saying on the air.

Pam and tommy signed this general waiver of liability. . It was like, OK, you know what, let’s just let it go up there. Nobody’s going to see it anyway. And they thought it would just go away but it went the other direction. That tape was that big of an event that it got the world up to the Internet. It forced the development of technology to be able to stream video. I had friends of mine now who were asking me, how do we get on? How do we see it?

There was no sex tape industry before the Pam and Tommy Lee tape. I mean, I do remember the subsequent years that IEG, where there were people who would bring tapes up and they were staged and, you know, Seth would give them lie detector tests and do all kinds of things to see if it was real. Other people. Have branded themselves on sex tapes who either made the tape on purpose or the tape got leaked and, you know, they signed off on it so they could make millions and millions and millions of dollars. Everybody was trying to cash in.

I’ve always kind of felt bad that this was released. I never profited off this tape. I didn’t steal it and I never sold it was on my dad as a mom, as a woman. I kind of felt bad for him because I wouldn’t want that out there. I know for sure she didn’t want it out there. It was her own private home videos and she thought it was just going to be for her and him nobody else to see. And it really was an invasion of her privacy.

This tape, it was a big adventure for my dad, but in the end, it it really destroyed him. When the tape went on the Internet, that’s when it started unraveling and that the sales of his VHS tape just diminished. Slowly but surely, my dad realized all this fun that he was having was going to come to an end. When he came back to the states, he stayed with me for a while and, you know, just was lost. I think that was maybe his ego. I don’t know. I think it was he felt defeated. It put him in a dark place and he just never came back. Looking back over the years, I really wish that the tape was never around because eventually it’s what took my dad from me and he was my best friend, a very great guy, and I miss him terribly. Ultimately, this is a story of greed and greed will ruin you.

I was told that because of my Playboy background, I had no right to privacy. The depositions were insensitive and creepy. They blew up naked photos of me. And there’s five men rifling questions to me about my sex life. With that white stuff in the corner of their mouths, I kept thinking he’s grown. Men are looking at me with such hatred. It made me feel worthless, scared and confused. What did we do wrong? We didn’t want this to happen. It was stolen and I was in constant tears. It was not a choice we made for fame or for money.
